HELP payday advance question

Anyone have any information on "payday" advance companies? I live in Calif. w/ a an unpaid payday advance from 1/2000. Does this carry the same SOL as a credit card? I received a message from an "attorney" and need some advise on what I should do. Thank you for your help!!
