I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. My tenants bailed, destroyed my house, and the utilities tried to stick me with the bills. I dealt with NCO. I sent a simple validation letter I found at creditnet.com or try creditboards.com certified mail. I also faxed it as backup. In it I also included a paragraph explaining how these were my tenants bills not in my name. NCO could not get the proof (of course not) and after 30 days sent me a deletion letter. My tenants cable bill went to credit protection associates. They refused to validate and refused to remove it from my credit report so I sued them and instead of them collecting from me I collected $1000 from them.
