I work as a payee for persons who receive social security benefits. It is my experience that a debt collector, even with a judgment, can not take your disability check or any amount of it. However, any federal loans, like school loans, can take money from your SSD check. I would check the www.ed.gov website about getting your school loans canceled due to permanent disability. Also, if you try the direct consolidation option, you can combine your student loans and pay one low price a month. They will base it on your income and I know of someone who only has to pay like 10 dollars a month due to their low income. It is better than the dept of ed taking at least 10 percent from your SSDI check.
Also, watch out if a creditor gets a judgment against you. They can attatch your bank account, then you will have to prove that the amount in the account is solely from SSDI benefits. Yet, in the meantime, the bank will have frozen your account and you will have no access to your money until it is taken care of through the court.
