I too have received a love-letter from CAMCO, this past mid-July demanding ~$2500. Before I even found this forum I sent them a dispute reply demanding that they provide a copy of EVERY charge supposedly incurred, with my signature attached to each. In the letter I also warned them about the consequences of taking any action on my credit history. (The "original" debt that I'm imagining they are claiming this is was charged-off over 10 years ago, but was nowhere NEAR the amount they are demanding.)

It's been 45 days now, and I've not heard back from them. (Am sort of kicking myself for not sending my dispute via registered mail, but I can create my own "certificate of service" stating that I sent the letter to them.) I checked my 3 CRA reports a few weeks ago, and they are clean, so so far they've not moved on their threat to 'assume this debt is valid' if I didn't respond with a dispute within 30 days of their 1st letter. So they must've rec'd my dispute.

My Q: Should I call them, and demand a letter from them quitting their claim since they've failed to validate it? (I'm set up to record the call from any payphone, so I'm not worried about them getting more contact info on me via caller ID -- let them harass anyone who answers the payphone later) :-D

After reading all the posts here about this 'company' I'm mad and have my scorp tail raised and primed.

Should I let these 'people' crawl away from me quietly and hope they fade away, or should I pursue them? Should I be the Eagle, or Scorpion? I'm totally ready and willing to go to court on this.

How do I stop all this here and now, and keep them from selling this "debt" to some other CA and starting all this again?

Thanks to all of you, and from what I'm seeing, especially Why Chat for being a great source of info and moral support.
