$1400 to fix CR? Help please.......

My credit report looks BAD. Several CC's paid but closed, some charged off. A foreclosure proceeding was started, etc. I'm not a deadbeat, but have lost
a job, a divorce etc. ....Is it possible to
get some of these things removed? I have a mortgage
financer that says he can get them off for $1400. He also suggests that my ex-wife come in and he'll cut the price if he fixes both CR's at the same time. He
told me that I can't do it myself, as you all suggest
because he says they will not update my "credit score".
He said there are 4 different avenues that must be
addressed, and that a novice like myself cannot do that. Help..... If I do it myself, what reason do I list as my dispute? What about
disputing over the internet, instead of the certified/return receipt method? Is there a limit to the number of disputes I can request at one time; a few at a time, or the whole works at once?
