If it truly was a joint account, and she wasn't just an authorized user, then yes, unfortunately, she is liable for those debts. Divorce decrees are NOT helpful in this situation, it means nothing to the creditors expecting to be paid. This is exactly the reason why divorce often means BOTH spouses end up in BK. The lesson ? Keep EVERYTHING separate, especially car loans and credit cards !
