I copied this post from debtamerica.com could you verfiy this information. The person who post this is a real live ahole. I want to inform him of how incorrect he is:

i dont work for this company......i own a contracting company. i got called by one of their "senior analysts" about 3 months ago about a bounced check that i did indeed write in 2002.
but since i keep good transaction records and knew it was mine i did some research on the company....something you people havent really done...i paid my debt with no additional penalties because i handled it right away....they dont make their money from the amount of the check collected, they make their $ from the fees they asses to the check(which IS LEGAL)so in short if you pay your bill you wont be giving them anything.

and in case you dont realize it:
nobody extended credit to you for whatever purchase you made via check....a check is a LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT between purchaser and retailer stating that their is cash available to the amount of the check when first written...their is no credit or grace period involved in the transaction....and BOUNCING A CHECK IS IN FACT ILLEGAL!!!!...do your homework little girl and you may be disappionted at what you find out but at least you'll know the way collections actually works....
