MCM Collection letter also

I see another user here getting the same settlement letter from MCM. Mine is in regards to a auto loan gone repo. With Huntington National Bank. Back in 1999. At which time I felt we/HNB settled with a voluntary repo and settlement check of 1700.00. I being ignorant did not ask for a settlement letter!!!! Now 4 years later, no letter/collections from HNB, HNB did a write off on loan, and I assume sold it to MCM and MCM is trying to collect $2500.00 plus monthly interest of 12%. Will the verification and C&D letter help me out of this mess? I already told them verbally I am disputing the amount. What would be my other steps to this? Thank you in advance for your suggestions
