I'm the one who owes $3700 to Spiegel (date of last activity 8/01) and have been receiving settlement offers from MCM. The other day I got the "we're authorized to get a lawyer, but we haven't done it yet" letter. You indicated that they would probably sue, but my question is why didn't they do it sooner? I've always assumed from my other debts (they are all past SOL now) that if they wait this long and then make settlement offers, that they won't sue. I owed American Express over $10,000 and they never sued - now way past SOL.

Also, my hubby is the only wage earner now. I'm a stay at home mom of 2 kids and with hubby's low income with his State of FL job, we are considered poverty level.

Thanks for any and all info!

Last month, they sent me a settlement offer of $1800, which, of course, I just ignored.

Are they just blowing smoke or should I be worried now?

I'm in Florida, by the way - non-working housewife.

Thanks for any and all info!
