I have not been able to find any info on this subject. My father recently passed away. After having filed bankrupty due to a messy divorce My father took out a couple of unsecured loans for me. The loans are in his name alone and total about 10,000 combined. I've been making the monthly payments on these loans every since the accounts were opened. Now my husband has had to change jobs and is making less I'm struggling to make these payments. If I were to stop paying on these accounts, what would happen? Would my mother be responsible, even though her name is not on the accounts? She had a small insurance policy of $10,000. All of which she has already paid on her home loan. My state is Tennessee. Any advice would be helpful.
