They cannot tell you who they are over an answering machine as that could be construed as 3rd party disclosure if anyone other than the intended victim heard the recording. Just make sure the BF says he knows nothing about the checks nor does he know about her being a thief. It does not technically matter but let them abuse the hell out of him and make sure he takes it without getting angry. Get that tape recorder ASAP. You will not regret it.
