You also need to determine if your mother truly IS on these accounts as JOINT and not just an authorized user of your father's accounts. The collectors, of course, will only tell you that she must pay. That may or may not be true, but as Mike so succintly put it, THEY LIE, so you cannot trust them.

Force them, Chase in particular, to validate if you don't have proof yourself that your mother is truly joint on the account. I'd verify the same with the other accounts as well. As an authorized user, she has NO liability, and especially so if she never used the cards.
