IS CA a Community Property State

I am not sure but I do think you and your husband need to see an attorney. If CA is a community property state, all debts are considered community property and they can still come after his assets. You do need to show up and defend yourself. It will depend on how the state statues are written. There are several states which are community property states where the states look at all assets and all debt acquired after marriage as joint ownership.

Please show up and get yourself an attorney. At least go to legal aid and listen to their advice.
