judgment Sol question

I live in Kansas. There is a judgment against my husband that will be five years old in a few days. I noticed the SOL for judgments is five years, but can be renewed. How does the creditor renew the judgment? when they garnished our bank account, did that renew it? Or do they have to file some specific paperwork to renew it? I am kinda confused on this. And would we just go to court and tell the judge, when they try to garnish my husbands wages again, that the Sol to collect has passed? thanks.
