Immediately respond to this summons by filing a written answer to the complaint with the court. You can plead "lack knowledge" to their claims. You must do this first othwerwise the enemy lawyer gets a default judgement against you on grounds you did not respond on time. From there anything you do will be an uphill batle.
There are instructions on this site on how to answer suits. Again, "lack knowledge' protects you because you make no statements the enemy can challenge and it forces him to prove his claim. This is his party so let him cater it.
These vile putrid insects hope you will not respond thus they get a default judgement. By filing your answers with the court you prevent that and now you've started to turn the tables on your enemy by forcing them to spend time and money. They are about getting money for no work or expense so you are hurting them.
After you file written answers with the court then surely demand validation if this is SOL debt.
Once served it is more difficult to settle and impossible if they get a judgement. Most litigation is posturing and bluffing by opposing sides in effort to reach an agreement before going to trial.
If the ca has committed violations - in all probability they have - you can countersue them as well as file complaints with the FTC and your state Attorney General. The FDCPA and FCRA are described as thickets which can easily stick a collector. But it's up to you to file answers then complaints with FTC and the AG so their conduct can be examined more closely for violations.

Examinedly,
