If you are registering for an EIN as a LEGITIMATE buisiness owner, then there's nothing illegal about getting one. Its this scam of getting an EIN to 'start a new credit file' that is ILLEGAL.

EIN stands for "employer identification number". As a legit business owner you COULD at some point, have employess. It is NOT meant for individuals to use for fraud.
