Being Sued...garnishment question

Okay, I just got the papers today. They have enough evidence to convince a judge that this is mine. I will attempt to fight it on SOL, but I have a question.

If I lose, the only thing I have that they can take is a paycheck, but I'm an independant contractor so they can take the whole thing, which means I might as well quit my job and I can't really afford to do that.

My question is: I live in one state (and work from home) and the company I do work for is in another state. How easy will it be for them to garnish? I've heard that it's next to impossible for them when you live in one state and basically work in another, but I don't know if that's true and if it's the same for independant contractor work.

Just wondering if I should panic now and just work out a payment schedule with them before it gets out of hand. I'm assuming if I lose, it's going to tack another $2000 to the debt.

Thanks!
