Dear All,
I found this site several days ago when I was researching about bad credit. I am a college student in Texas. I first got credit cards back in ’98 on the purpose like everyone else, build up good credit. I receive financial help from my Dad for college so I was able to keep up with the payments. My grandfather passed away in ’00 and my college fund from my Dad has to be spent on hospital bills. That is when I started to fell behind on my credit cards and cell phone payments.
I have tried my best to work with my credit card companies, but I just couldn’t fork up the money to even pay monthly payment. I am a full time student and work part time, most money I earn goes to rent and food. It has been almost a year now since my last payment and my accounts have been charge off to CA.
After about a million phone calls by CA and all that threats and harassments, every one of them makes me feel guilty about my debt. They even proposed that I stop school and work to pay off the debt. I told them if I stop school, I would have to start paying off my student loan then it would be even more difficult for me to pay them. Most of them stop calling, but one still pretty persistent which is the Cambece law office.
I want to get rid of all my debt. I am a pretty responsible person and I do not want any CA to call me ever again. I read a lot of posts on this forum and for most part; I get an implication that working with CA is useless. Several people call them “scum” which they truly deserve. In some case, even if you settle a debt, let say $4000 was the whole amount and you settle for $3000, would CA sell the settled $1000 off to other CA? How would you ever get rid of debt if you settle with one CA and the balance keeps transferring to another? A lot of response posts urge that you don’t work with CA and ignore them. I want to be financially free from debt, please tell me how to actually pay for it so that it will never come back or transfer off to another CA.
