What constitutes proof of DOLA from a creditor?

I have a copy of my credit report and some of the DOLA's are not correct. I was thinking about requesting validation of the debts in order to prove that they are past SOL and possibly past the 7 year reporting limit. (I have heard of creditors and CA's doing this.) If I do that, what constitutes proof of DOLA from a creditor.

Secondly, one of those was a Sears card which was charged off and I called them about reopening the account to avoid the charge off. I made a verbal agreement over the phone to resume a payment schedule. I was then layed off from my job and again defaulted. The original charge off was in 1994 and the supposed reopening of my account was in 1998. I realize that the SOL probably restarted in 1998 but what about the 7 year credit knock. Could that verbal agreement be disputed and the negative credit mark be challenged since the original charge off was way past 7 years ago? I live in Texas.

Any help much appreciated.
