Credit Card Charge Off on Credit Report

I have a charge off on my credit report of a CitiBank credit card of $800. The credit report lists the creditor as "Gulf State Credit - Citibank". I tried calling Gulf State, but my debt has been sold at least 3 times now to another collections agency. Can I dispute this account to get it off of my credit report? If so, what would my "excuse" be? Account closed? I've heard that if the credit reporting agency checks with "Gulf State Credit" they will not be able to verify the debt b/c it has been sold. Or will Citibank be contacted and have the new information? Any help is appreciated.
