Victim of Fraud by ex-husband

Seven months before filing for divorce, my husband obtained a loan for $7500 from his credit union through a joint account, without my knowledge or consent. When he received the check, he endorsed it and then took it to work to let a co-worker sign my name (so that it would be in a girl's handwriting.) He then used the funds to pay off all of his personal credit card debt.I asked my divorce attorney to make sure that I would not be held resposible for the loan in any way, so he added a clause to the dissolution agreement that stated I would be "held harmless." The payments are now over 120 days late and I was just denied credit, even though my report is perfect with the exception of this loan history. I found out quickly that the divorce decree means NOTHING to creditors. The credit union admits in writing that they issued the loan over the phone, took my husband's word "in good faith," and did not verify the validity of the signatures with the signature cards on file, but they refuse to remove my name from the loan, unless I file criminal charges against my ex. I have tried for two days to do that, but the police department will not let me file charges because we were married at the time. Now, I'm looking at attorney fees and court costs to sue his credit union for cause of action to remove my name from the loan. I AM THE VICTIM, but the law is protecting the criminals! This is going to cost a huge chunk of money just to clear up my credit, and it's all due to negligence on the part of the creditor. RIDICULOUS !!!
