Credit Card charge offs-

My husband and I have three credit cards in the past 5 years that we closed. We have been paying and paying for that time length. Two of the credit limits were $1500.00 and the other $1800.00. The third is approx. $5000.00. We have not paid them in 5 months. We wrote them a note stated our position and that we want to settle the account in some reasonable fashion (certified letter w/return receipt)but we never heard back from them. Unfortunaley over the last years we have done our best to pay them off. But we had many problems with our daughter who was in the hospital the first two years of her life which started the debt process. I do not know how these credit card companies except people to pay them off when ever month they charge you $25 overlimit fee/$25 late fee. I do not know what to do. My husband and I are sick over this. Do we start paying again or do we just let in go and see what happens. Time is running out for us. We have tried to work things out but the companines just dont care..I hope someone out there can help. Thank you
