Many credit card issuers will obtain information
from the credit bureaus about whether particular
consumers have a positive credit history, and will
send offers to those consumers who meet certain
standards.

Check out our *Credit Overview* section (the
link is at left), and read the article on
pre-approved credit card offers.

There you will find the addresses and phone numbers
to contact the credit bureaus and request to
opt-out of future marketing screenings of this
type, which should then reduce the number of
card solicitations that you receive.

Some offers aren't targeted in this manner, and
the mailing lists come from places like magazine
subscriptions, etc. We will be adding a page to
the *Credit Overview* section on reducing direct
mail in general. (That should be up in the next
couple of days.)
