judgement

My husband received a summary for judgement and didnt respond to it. We didnt understand it so he called the creditor and they said he didnt have to do anything just pay the debt......Well ok......we havent paid it yet. Now today we got a judgement. What can we do now. Our bank accts are joint should I remove his name from them?
