It is totally possible! :) DH and I made payments to the IRS in the early 80's, and had to be put on moratorium for 1 year due to a layoff and relocation. We were to recontact them in one year. Needless to say, we didn't,we owed taxes every year we were gone, and moved back to our original town 5 years later, and filed our taxes as usual, and owed 200 for that tax year. We received a check from the IRS for over $800!
I contacted them to be sure it wasn't a mistake,
they said when we had to stop making payments, we only owed $900, so the rest of the debt was forgiven with them. Good luck!!
