"why would you wait to pay..."? "not a scam?"

It doesn't matter. If he/she wants to wait until the last day to pay it, he/she can...it's his/her choice.

I'd call it a ripoff, bad business practice, and greed.

They give you a due date, then that's what the due date should mean...the last day to pay it without a penalty. Let's say you mailed the payment in, a week before the due date, and it gets "lost in the mail", and arrives on the due date..do you think it's fair if they charge you the extra fee? No, it's stupid and greedy.

Or how about when they raise your interest rate, because of a derogatory (with a different creditor) on your credit report, to 28%? It doesn't matter that you have never been late to them, or that the derogative entry is a mistake... They still raise their interest rate. And I'm talking about someone that has excellent credit.

Is that ok with everyone? You might say, well just close the account. Well gee, everyone may not be able to do that (It may be their only other credit card and it has a long excellent history and a good high credit on it, or they may not be able to qualify for another card with a high credit line)

The bigger picture here is that they are forcing you to do something that you would not have normally done.

The bigger picture here is that little by little, these CC companies are changing the terms in mid stream, and many consumers are getting stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Take forced arbitration for example: before, hardly any CC companies had it, but now most are including it, and very nicely hiding it among all the crap advertisement stuffed in your bill each month. Everytime they want to add something to their terms and agreement, this is exactly what they do. And guess what, when you miss reading one of those little slips of paper, and then use your card, you have automatically agreed to any changes they made.

Another example: you mail in a payment, and you notice it hasn't cleared your bank. So you call them, because the due date is like tomorrow, and you don't want to be late, so you want to make a EFT by phone. They tell you sure, but there is a charge of 5 or 10 dollars to do that. Why? Greed. (not all of them do that, but just wait, it'll catch on)

So please tell me how this guy's/gal's gripe seems so insignificant now?

This guy/gal was venting, and giving everyone a heads up on what may happen to you down the road. He/she has every right to do so, and I for one appreciate it.
