Sure, they are up front with the fee so you couldn't really call it a scam. What they are doing is taking advantage of people who live paycheck to paycheck which covers a large percentage of their customers. These people hold off paying until the due date because they are hoping that their next paycheck will be in before the payment is posted to their account. Providian knows this and figures they can make some money off it. Since they recieve the payment as soon as you hit the confirmation button you've covered your commitment to pay on time but because they tell you it costs 13 dollars or whatever they are actually giving you a choice. They are saying that if you pay the 13 bucks, they guarantee the payment will be processed in time. So really you could pay on that date without accepting the extra fee. Your payment has been received and if providian sends you a confirmation then you have proof you paid on time. The 13 bucks is not a scam just another cheap shot that plays off of fear by Providian, a company with a long history of screwing their customers.
