It does NOT affect you when you go to get a mortgage 10 years later, it doesn't appear on credit at all. And I personally know this as fact because we bought a home last year while still getting calls about a debt that is 15 yrs old and the mortgage co had NO WAY of knowing about that 15 yr old debt.
My advice....do NOT pay it, its past the statute of limitations, the only way they can do a darn thing about it is if they got a judgment and had that judgment renewed every few years.
