This is not the only cause of sludge in Toyotas. There are many that were maintained according to the owners manual that succumbed to sludge. If you want more info, do a www.google.com search for "Toyota Engine Sludge". There is a compilation of Toyota Engine Sludge recent problems that can be found at www.thecomplaintstation.com, click on the letter "T" at the top alphabet and go to Toyota. This is definitely not a maintenance issue. I owned one and changed my oil every 5000 miles and had sludge at 17,000 miles (had three oil changes). Toyota paid for the repairs but gave me no assurances that the problem was fixed and whether or not they would cover the cost if if failed again.
