ASSet Acceptance / Providian

I had a Providian account that was sold to Asset Acceptance. I've disputed this before with the 3 credit agencies (although it has been several months ago). I just pulled an updated 3-in-1 report.

Experian indicates the following trade lines:

Asset Acceptance: "Account in dispute - reported by subscriber - No status". Additionally, balance is $0.

Providian Financial: "Credit line closed-grantor request-reported by subscriber - Charge off" Balance of $1,517.

Equifax indicates the following tradelines:

Asset Acceptance: "Customer disputes this account information - collection account - At least 120 days or more than four payments past due" Balance is $2,036.

Providian: "Account transferred or sold - Account closed by credit grantor - Bad debt & placed for collection & skip" Balance $0

TransUnion indicates the following tradelines:

Asset Acceptance: TransUnion does not have a tradeline for Asset Acceptance.

Providian: "Account information disputed by consumer - Collection account" Balance $2,036.

I live in Alabama and I don't have all my notes with me today, but I believe this debt is right at the statute of limitations (it was late 2000 or early 2001 when the account was charged off and then sold to ASSet).

Can Providian still show a balance when they sold the account? Can you think of anything I can do to help my credit situation? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
