Help! Received summons today

Help. I received a summons today for a medical bill from local clinic, this is from 2 years ago when I broke my back. My husband & I were divorced in June of this year after 8 years of marriage & he had verbally agreed to take care of this bill which I thought was paid until today. I told the officer who served the papers that there was a verbal agreement for him to pay & since the bill was in both our names he got his address & said he would serve papers on him also. Do you think I will have to pay part or all of this bill? What if anything do I need to do? Thanks in advance for any help.
