Is it legal for a bank to report to credit reporting

My car loan was in a charge back status for only two weeks, when I successfully renegotiated the loan for lower monthly payments.

They said that even though I keep making timely payments, they will continue to report that I am late evry month and that the loan remains in charge-back status until I paid the loan in full.

Is this legal?
