Depending on the state laws of Iowa, the car is in your name, and your home is in your name. Is your husband's name on the title or deed anywhere. If he surrenders his car which is in your name, it will be your credit that will take a hit and your assets that creditors would look at in the event they decided to sue. I would try and sell that car for a deal that takes over payments. Get the buyer to take over payments and transfer the financing and the title to their name.
