CA law office is it just a scare tatic

I have been paying on a account making monthly payments didn't pay for over 2 yrs and now they scared me with a law office, I know the oc was providian and then it went to a ca and I just didn't listen to there comments, and then we didn't hear from them again until about may of this year, and then it was collection office in tx, and they sent one letter,
and then one from a law office in okla, saying we can make the payments of 200 and now they aren't sending me bills, I didn't know that i could valided the bill the sol isn't up yet, I am sending for my credit report thanks for all the help
I need to know do i ask them to valid the credit card and wait it out or will they take to me court and garnish my check ,or on my house , I need help on this problem i don't worry as much now I just need to know what I can expect from the law office and to stop the ca for getting the money the oc is providian the other ca was northland
