They keep a record of all the IP addresses of the online applications.

At least with an IP address, they'll know what ISP and possibly even a specific computer, yet somehow I feel that ID theives today are at least smart enough to do it from a public access (library, cafe, etc.) and not from their homes or jobs.

But you seriously need to inform the CC company of this, since it is putting $2,000 against your line of credit. It may even be lowering your credit, putting you into a higher interest rate bracket.

Check your inquiries sections of all 3 reports carefully. If someone has your SS#, it's very likely that they have applied numerous times to many different CC companies. You will need to do as Why Chat says (put a fraud alert on all 3) and dispute the inquiries, since they lower your score.

Also, I would report to your local postal inspector that somebody may be tampering with your mail. This is a serious offense.
