About 2 years ago I received a letter in the mail from a company named Camco and it stated that I owed approximately $4600 or so and to remit the payment immediately or futher actions would be taken. I trashed the letter because I had no idea of who these people were. A few weeks later a man called me at my job telling me that he was from Camco and that I owe this money from a old Visa Card I apparently had in 1991, a 10 year old debt at that time and now it is a 12 year old debt. I asked him who it was that held the account and he said the card was a Key Bank card but since then other companies has purchased the debt. I asked him if he provide me with proof that I made those charges I will pay the debt. He said if he had to do extra work that he could not offer me the settlement amount of $1500 and I told him I didn't care that I wanted proof that it was my bill. A week or so passes and I receive a computer print out in the mail. It had my maiden name with an old address and my SS# and the amount I owed and that was it. I threw that in the garbage along with the letter that stated they wanted their money being that they provided me with the proof. A few weeks later the same man calls me again at my job telling me that he did his part and that I must do my part and pay the debt. I told him that what he sent was not proof because there were no charges nor were there any signatures that belonged to me, there just wasn't anything on this print out and I wasn't paying the bill. After several calls of harassment I finally told the man that I have been diagnosed with Focal Sclerosis and that by him upsetting me is not good for my kidneys and that I will sue him if he doesn't stop calling me and harassing me. The phone calls at my job stopped and I thought that was the end of Camco. Last night my phone rings at home and my son tells me it is for me. I answer the phone and it is a woman this time from Camco. I told her that I was not going to pay this debt because I don't believe that it is mine and she said she has already read the notes and she is very much aware of the passed statements I've made. She stated that there is a law that prohibits them to access the information that I am requesting and that I must request it myself. I told her that I wasn't doing her leg work for her and that to take me to court and we will see what the judge has to say about this whole thing. She said that her company can not take people to court for whatever reasons and that I must obtain that information that I have requested from them. I told her that I didn't own a visa card with Key Bank and that the only Visa Card I owned was with Citizens Bank and I paid that at the bank and handed them the credit card personally. She said that it wasn't a Visa that it was a Master Card. I told her that the man I spoke to before told me that it was a Visa. She then said thats why he is no longer with the company. I told her that I also spoke with his manager as well and she put me on hold for about 10 seconds and then told me that that manager is no longer with the company either. At this point I got tired of the aggrivation and lies and told the woman to take me to court and stop calling my house and I hung up. What do I tell these people to get them off my back for the last time? Isn't the statutes of limatations up on this debt? If statutes of limatations does apply to this situation is there some way I can get that law in writing so that when they call back I can tell them that I am very much aware of that law. I don't know what else to do at this point and believe me when I say I can not handle much more stress in my life so I definately don't need this added stress.
