I have just received a letter from NCO Financial
saying that I owe Paypal Inc. $116.70.
Here is the actual text. "This letter has been sent to notify you that NCO Financial Systems Inc. has received your account for collection from the creditor listed above. We have been instructed to collect this account. Mail your check or money order in the enclosed envelope. Unless you notify this office within thirty days after receiving this notice that you dispute the validity of the debt or any portion thereof, this office will assume this debt is valid. If you notify this office in writing within 30 days from receiving this notice, this office will: obtain verification of the debt or obtain a copy of a judgement and mail you a copy of such jugdement or verification. If you request this office in writing withing 30 days after receiving this notice, this office will provide you with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor
this is an attempt to collect debt. Any information obtained will be used for that purpose. This is a communication from a debt collector"
This is VERY strange since Paypal is not a creditor!
They do not lend money. Anyone who ever had an account with them knows that there is no way for anyone to be in debt with them!
Now...I did a search on NCO and this company has a bad reputation.
What should I do? On one side I don't want to reply because I know I don't owe any money, and this is just an attempt to verify my address. But on the other, I don't want them to start adding all sorts of fees, and interest, and start messing with my credit. Please advise.
