I am a self-employed medical transcriptionist and my work has dropped way down. Therefore, I used AMEX to live off of and charged up $600. A company named Risk Management keeps calling me and sending me bills and I knew it was regarding AMEX. Well I answered the phone tonight and told the lady that I am self-employed, that my work has dropped off, that I do not own anything except a 92 toyota and a computer. She said that I was only getting deeper in a hole by paying only $20.00 per week, that AMEX is charging $30.00 per month late fee. Well that just let me know to stop paying anything at all, then, RIGHT?? What can they do to me? I have always been responsible, have had acct with AMEX since 1982, never missed a payment until just recently like 4 months ago. This has gone on for about 4 months now. What can they do to me? Never in this situation before. I also have 2 other credit cards - one Capital One which I owe $800 and Providian which I owe $1,800. Also, making payments on these accounts is getting me nowhere fast and I struggle to pay my monthly rent. What if I stop making monthly payments on Cap One and Providian? What can they do to me? Upset here.......but after reading the board I see I'm not in much debt compared to some others. Thanks a lot on any input whatsoever anyone can give me. Oh, the Risk Management lady starting yelling at me and I said, okay, you are yelling at me, I'm hanging up. And I did. Thanks.
