You take the wholesale value of your car, (usually the trade-in value minus 40%) and deduct your $1,000 Fl. exemption, if you have anything left over, that is what MIGHT be at risk.If you need your car to get to work, or to provide transportation for a disabled family member, it will be exempted.

If you have a expensive fairly new car, that is paid off, you might lose it in the BK.
