charge off and starting over period

if you start paying on a charge off and you make payments do you start the clock all over again the oc charged it off and then sold it off to 2 other ca and they have got there lawyer involved so called ......so does it start over or what the sol isnt up until next year around 4/2004 what should I do been making payments I owe it but i know it won't help my cr
