Charge-off dilema

In college, I charged up a MasterCard to the tune of about $1,800. I made patments for a few months at a time over the years (97-00) but eventually my account was charged off at something like $4,000.00. The CA who has my account says I owe $4,600. My question is this: I have a couple thousand dollars I can put toward debts, and I have maybe $500 dollars total in other debts from old ultilities and such. Should I try to get the MasterCard account settled, or pay off everything else and get a couple of secured Credit Cards? Thank You
