One other thing. The fact that they failed to produce validation of the debt is a point you can argue in your favor as well. A printed out copy of a bill is not validation. Anyone can go to their computer, copy and paste a customers information and fill in a bogus account and sent it to you. That is self serving. THey need something with your signature on it. And yes, you do have a case, but I am not sure where you are going with this. If it was way past SOL, why didn't you just send them a statue of limitations letter and a cease and desist letter and be done with it. Why are you trying to make them validate a debt that is past the statue of limitations. They cannot enforce it. You can have it removed in a couple of years once the date of last activity has passed. And yes, you have grounds for a lawsuit against them. You are disputing them and they are not allowed to enter a tradeline in your credit report while it is being disputed.
