Civil Procedure Code 116.420a - an assignee cannot sue in small claims court. I've used this technicality a few times to obtain dismissals for my company. It does not stop the plaintiff from suing in a superior court. I have not seen any of my opponents follow up, but at various courthouses I have seen collection agencies filing limited civil cases for debts as small as $300.
