NY Statue of limitations is 6 years for credit card. If you cannot prove you paid, don't have the reciepts after this time, it is SOL defense.

Ask for validation. Check your credit reports for supposed charge off dates and dates of last activity. You need to know what incorrect information they are reporting in order to fight this if you have to and to find out when the statue of limitations are.
