I think what DD was refering to is that he would be willing to work with someone who called in to pay their bill but not those who go through the validation process because people don't forget about their bills that go into collections, but the demand validation as a delay tactic, they hope that this will get it closer to being beyond the SOL. Before people like ladynred jump all over this, many on this board have advocated sending validation letters with the purpose of getting closer to the SOL date, even when the OP says that they know of the account. The other reason people look for validation is because they know that the OC may sell an account without all the paperwork, and they are hoping that the CA or attorney will not be able to validate and will have to drop the claim. The only time one should send a validation request is if it truly isn't yours, otherwise you are playing with fire. Here is my suggestion: if you are serious about paying off your bill, then call the collector and say "I fell into some tough times and several or my accounts charged off. I understand that your company is now handling this account and I would like to pay it off. What can we work out?" Sending validation requests and cease and desists is not always the safest thing to do. Hope this helps.
