I think everyone who has had credit problems has asked the same things you're asking.

Let's face it, creditors and collection agencies don't care about "circumstances", "hard times", etc. Now some trolls that come on to this site will differ but the truth is that it's all about money. That is the only thing they care about. CAs live off the money they collect. If people would stop paying them, they would die. Although there are laws that are supposed to protect people from abuse and harassment dished out by the CAs the laws are routinely broken. Why? Because all they care about is money. They don't care that your rights have been violated, that you've lost your job, that you may become homeless, etc. None of that matters to them. And the worst thing is that the way the system is set up, if you try to do the "right" thing by paying off your debts, you still get screwed! Damned if you do and damned if you don't...

This is why I will not ever deal with CAs, they can call and send their stupid little letters all they want, it will not change my stance. I also no longer use credit cards because they charge way too many fees and trying to deal with their "customer relations" depts. is just too much of a hassle.

Remember, though, it's all about MONEY. Nothing more, nothing less.
