I know someone who ignored the company that was trying to collect his loans- went directly to the Ford Federal loan program- and did a consolidation with them. Ford paid off the existing loans, consolidated all into one loan and even gave him a deferment when he went back to school.

The company is not going to want to let go of you- too many $$$- however, if you can get into the federal program, then they will have no choice.

Give it a shot - you have nothing to lose.
