My Mother (who gets smarter the older I get) once told me that the way someone treats you BEFORE you get married, is the best they will ever treat you.

Same with a job- when they are courting you- the put on their best behavior. Once you are hired, things can change. Maybe this is a signal that this is not the right place for you.

The only reason for asking - is that you would be in a position to handle or direct money in some way. Sometimes, they think (incorrectly) that if someone owes money they are more likely to embezzle funds, etc.

Lady's answer is the best- many people have trouble due to high medical bills, sudden loss of job or unexpected expenses- home repair, children's illness, etc.

Good news is that your credit report should look a lot better in 2004. Good luck
