I don't believe that you can ever "get rid" of unpaid taxes. They will haunt you until the day you die, and then some. Call them, make whatever arrangements they will agree to, and pay everything they want immediately. Trust me, they will make your life a living hell until you bow down before them.
IRS = another gov't agency that has gotten too big for it's soiled underpants.
