Can someone please HELP me!!!

i live in Massachusetts. Have a charged off wells fargo card......went to a collection agency/law firm........they sent me 2 notices.......i never responded to validate which i know about now.....didnt know then.......anyway....they got a default judgement in october......we have a motion to vacate in to be heard on 11/6........here is the problem......we refinanced our mortgage to get better rate and use some of the equity to pay this off......it was charged off at $5782....judgement for 6500......they agreed to settle it for 4400. It was solomon and solomon that is trying to collect it and got judgement for it. Wells fargo told me eskanos and adler bought it......so i assume solomon and solomon is working with them? anyway....the payoff checks came today and the company screwed up and sent the payoff check for my wells fargo mortgage to me and i assume the payoff check for the wells fargo card went to the mortgage department......i was supposed to send this to solomon and soloman the collectors.......i called wells fargo credit and being the nice people they are (sarcasm)....said i have to deal with the collector because wells fargo doesnt own the acct anymore and they arent getting the money.....the collector is....so now i am pissed i agreed to settle for too much and now i can see that my credit report wont change because wells fargo is reporting it as a charge off........tell me what i should have done or can do in this situation.......SORRY so long. should i have the new mortgage people cancel that 4400 check and redo it to me.....because now i wont even have any proof i paid because i was going to make a copy of that bank check which now i cant.
